The Faculty of Medicine of Tarumanagara University (FK Untar) was founded on October 1, 1965, but the idea to establish this Faculty of Medicine had emerged since 1954 by a member of the Tjandra Naya Social Association named Bayumi Wahab.
This idea emerged UNTAR Faculty of Medicine because of the success
of the establishment of the Sumber Waras Hospital on Jalan Kyai Tapa (now Jalan Tangerang) in 1954 on a plot of land measuring 8 hectares.
The “Founding Fathers” thought that this hospital would need young, qualified doctors to replace senior doctors, and to become strong cadres to continue the social efforts of the “Tjandra Naya” Social Association in the health sector.
The initial step was taken through the formation of the Untar Faculty of Medicine Establishment Preparatory Committee consisting of Prof. Dr. Slamet Muljana (Rector of Untar at that time), Bajumi Wahab, Dr. Lie Ging Tjwan (Dr. L. Gito Husodo), Drs. Kwee Hwat Djien, Khoe Woen Sioe, Tan Kwie Seng, R. Budi Setiawan, and Sidik Salamun.
